Air fryer chicken wings recipe

I honestly don’t know why it took me until 2020 to get on the air fryer bandwagon, this thing is a lifesaver. Just like my instant pot that I couldn’t stop talking about. Air frying is just as awesome and it is a lot more convenient to use than the conventional oven. The first recipe I made in my air fryer was crispy fried chicken and sweet potato fries, it was so good my daughter ate the skin off her piece of chicken. In her words, she couldn’t get enough of the crispiness and it tasted better than KFC. I was pretty pleased with myself too. Crispy chicken made half the time it takes if it were fried in oil. After I successfully made the crispy air fryer fried chicken, it gave me the confidence to make other recipes and I have not been disappointed. Also, the ability to reheat chicken without any next-day chicken taste is a winner for me (it is a thing for me).

Air Fryer Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

Air fried chicken wings come out perfect at all times, in fact, apart from air-fried fish (which for some might be tricky), chicken wings are a winner at all times. You don’t need oil too especially if it is not coated flour, the chicken produces its own oil obviously which helps it cook and crisp up beautifully. For today’s recipe, I used a homemade lemon pepper blend but you can use store-bought lemon pepper seasoning if that is what is available to you. You can also use any seasoning rub or blend you have. I have a good homemade taco seasoning you can try using on your chicken recipes.

Ingredients

Chicken wings separated into drumettes and winglets Smoked paprika Garlic granules substitute for garlic powder or fresh minced garlic Parsley Cornflour Salt and pepper Baking powder: This is optional as I didn’t use it for this recipe. Baking powder is added to chicken wings to make them crispy and for optimum result, the chicken is baked on low heat initially and then on high heat for more crispiness. You would need about a tablespoon for 1kg/2.2lb of wings. To make the lemon pepper sauce Butter Lemon zest Freshly ground black pepper Salt to taste

How to make air fryer lemon pepper chicken wings

Pat the chicken wings dry with a kitchen towel, season with salt and pepper, paprika, parsley, garlic granules, cornflour and mix together to combine. Marinate for 15 minutes and move on to preheat the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 195C/385F, mine is automatically set for 5 minutes (I use Cosori air fryer) Spray the air fryer basket with some cooking spray or rub some oil on the basket. Arrange the chicken wings in a single layer, cook the chicken at 195C/385F for 10 minutes. After the timer stops, remove the basket and flip the chicken wings, return it to the air fryer and cook for another 10 minutes at 195C/385F. For the last time, take out the chicken and give it a good shake, increase the temperature of the air fryer to 200C/400F and cook for additional 3 minutes. While this is going on, move on to make the lemon pepper sauce Melt the butter in a microwavable bowl, add the lemon zest, freshly ground pepper and a little bit of salt to taste and mix to combine. Transfer the chicken to a bowl, pour over the lemon pepper sauce, and toss to combine. Serve immediately and enjoy

How to store

Store Cooked chicken wings in the fridge for up to 5 days. This can also be frozen too and you can reheat the wings in the air fryer. Start with 200C/400F for 3 minutes and adjust accordingly.
